Joplin, MO

by Scott on 05/29/2011

I took a lonely drive down to Joplin early Saturday morning to help out where help was needed. It was an incredible experience. Hard to put it into words.

I arrived very early so I could take pictures while everything was silent. Then I helped a couple different people sort through their things to identify what could be saved. Most things worth saving were ruined. Everything was wet and muddy. Everyone there has a story, and they’re all pretty amazing.

Amazing images. Given that I probably won’t be able to drive out there in the next month, these pictures help convey what it must be like at ground zero. Wow.

Scott, thanks for sharing. Once again, your photos capture the drama of the city…a few that stand out in my mind are…the sign “God is with us”……the headless Mickey Mouse…..the set of stairs leading up to nothing….. the children`s toys ……the trees that were stripped, twisted and bare…..the cross, and all the American flags. What heart wrenching images.
